Incarcerated Veterans’ Transition Program
State of Florida Regional Workforce Boards 1-24
Purpose:
To motivate current incarcerated veterans within 180 days of their release to mentally prepare themselves to be competitive with the general workforce population in their respective regions 1-24 throughout the State of Florida. The program is to assist the veterans in the following areas of:
- Career counseling one-on-one to include advice & assistance with career training
- Skills assessments thru testing and evaluations such as Adult Basic Skills Enhancement and TABE testing
- Skill inventory to include transferable skills that were gained thru Civilian, Military and Department of Corrections Vocational Courses
- Providing current and future Labor market Information (LMI) and Job Referrals upon release
- Employment On the Job Training (OJT) where available
- Typing tests
- G.E.D preparations
- Employability skills
- Resume and interview assistance
- Knowledge of the Federal Bonding Program
Goals:
To provide the veterans with proper monitoring support staff thru LVER and DVOP in their release areas (WFB) 1-24, along with quality assurance and follow-up techniques in order to establishing a positive outcome for the employers and the veterans’ within the Incarcerated Veterans Transition Program.
Objectives:
To maintain a two way open communications with the employers and the veterans within the Incarcerated Veterans Transition Program, this would be the responsibility of LVER’ and DVOP’ throughout the 24 WFB’ in the State of Florida.
It is strongly advised that these veterans be monitored for quality assurance upon their release by: 30-60-90-180 consecutive days of gainful employment such as:
- Introduction letter to employers
- Follow-up visits (weekly, biweekly, monthly and quarterly)
- Conflict resolution & anger management
- Job coaching service to the veteran (as needed)
