Volunteers of
America - Florida

Lake City Supportive Housing Program

Volunteers of America is the nation’s largest non profit provider of quality affordable housing for people with special needs.  The agency was the recipient of a HUD Grant to provide housing for eleven homeless and disabled veterans in Lake City.  Working in conjunction with the local Veterans Administration hospital, and other agencies within the Homeless Coalition of Suwannee Valley, Volunteers of America of Florida provides these veterans with affordable housing for up to two years.  During this time, the organization’s counselors work with the veterans to stabilize their health, maximize their benefits and entitlements and help each person develop their independent living skills.

Additionally, the agency will administer a novel program called “Cabins-in-the-Woods.”  This program will place approximately 30 veterans in individual households in a rural setting.

Volunteers of America Florida is proud to be part of the local effort in assisting veterans in need to live as independently as possible, in comfort and dignity, and with the respect they deserve for their service to our country.
